Maharashtra is the western most state in India. Maharashtra is the third largest state in India in terms of area and the second largest in terms of population. Medieval Maharashtra consists of the Satvahana dynasty, the Rashtrakuta dynasty, the Western Chalukya Mughals and the Maratha Empire. The extent of Maharashtra is one lakh 18 thousand 809 square miles. Maharashtra is known as the progressive Maharashtra of Phule Shahu Ambedkar because Maharashtra has inherited the ideological and national heritage of these three social reformers.
